ETFs: Interest of Markets and Regulators Grows

A turbulent three months of trading have brought a surge in volatility. The Chicago Board Options Exchange Volatility Index, known as the Vix, doubled in August, and has stayed high for the longest time since the midst of the financial crisis. In the past, hedging against volatility typically involved derivatives, both exchange-traded and over-the-counter, that could pay off if prices moved sharply.
