Number Of CDS Contracts Protecting US Debt Rose Nearly 12% Last Week

The number of credit default swap contracts outstanding on U.S. government debt rose 11.6% over week-earlier levels in the five days ending Friday, as political bickering in Washington reach fever pitch and culminated in the nation losing its prized triple-A credit rating.
