CFTC, SEC: Derivatives Definitions Can Be Standardized

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission released the results of a joint study on requiring derivatives to have standardized, algorithmic descriptions today, concluding that the technology was feasible. The study was mandated by the Dodd-Frank Act, which deals primarily with over-the-counter derivatives such as swaps, but the report notes this could be applied to traditionally listed derivatives as well.
