Fundamental Review of the Trading Book
June 9, 2016, London

The FRTB will have profound consequences for the way market risk capital is calculated for trading businesses and hence potentially for the traded markets. It changes every aspect of market risk models for RWA, introducing a completely new and more sophisticated Standardised Approach as well as making fundamental changes to internal models, including the replacement of VaR. Furthermore it redefines the boundary between the trading book and banking books as well as having significant implications for desk structures.

Implementing the required model and systems changes will be a major exercise for banks creating significant time pressure to meet the regulatory deadlines. However, it may also have profound consequences for deal pricing as well as the actual business structure and strategy. The changes are therefore relevant, not just to risk and capital people, but also those involved in business execution and management.

ISDA leads the joint industry working group on FRTB and the conference speakers are all expert practitioners who have been directly involved in working with regulators to help shape the changes.

These oblige certain regulated entities to obtain from their counterparties a contractual recognition of the application of stays on or overrides of certain termination rights under the home-country special resolution regime of such regulated entity (Stay Regulations). This symposium will also focus on the operative provisions of the U.K. (PRA Rule) Jurisdictional Module.
